Students will have physical education 3 times a week. The importance of life long fitness will be taught and sport skills will be taught. Within these broader topics subjects such as communication, problem solving, sportsmanship, and teamwork will also be covered. The students will be taught the influence healthy choices make on one's life and the basics of the heart and cardiovascular system. PE shoes need to be worn in order to participate in physical education activities. Shoes can not be sandals (of any type), or slip-ons. The shoes must have some type of tightening devise such as shoe laces or Velcro. One strap with a button or buckle is not typically a tightening devise. The reasoning for these guidelines is based on safety for not only your child, but others in the class also. If shoes are not worn then they will be asked to read a book and possibly give a small report on it. If it is a consistent problem, parents will be notified and the PE grade will be influenced. There is a new fitness test program that we will be using this year called Fitnessgram. This will be implemented at all grade levels with 5th grade receiving a report with their report cards two times. Check back often to see important dates and/or other announcements...
