Summer Reading and Material Return
I want to thank you for your support of your children, the LMC, our school, and of me during my first year as the Owen librarian. Like many things during the past few years, this year has had some challenges, but has had many more successes! Please see below for information about recent and upcoming events:
Our students got to see nearly 25 authors during our virtual author visits on May 14th. Students got to learn about the writing process, see how graphic novel authors draw/create their characters, hear about struggles and achievements of the authors, learn about story development, and find out about many new authors, books, and genres. Students were very enthusiastic and asked great questions. You may find out more about the authors on the OMG Bookfest page: Go to: https://www.omgbookfestchicago.com/. You may also still purchase autographed copies of authors’ books through June 1st (on the website).
Spring Book Fair
The Spring Book Fair was a roaring success! I’d like to thank you for your support. I am thrilled that our students will have so many great books to read and that we will be able to purchase more quality books and resources for all students to enjoy in the LMC! The winners for the grade-level baskets have received their baskets as well.
Summer Reading Programs & Activities
This week during LMC I am talking to students about the many summer reading programs and opportunities and preventing the “summer slide”. I have created a presentation with information about reading programs with the Naperville and Aurora Public Libraries (All students may participate in both programs), Barnes & Noble, Chuck E. Cheese, and Scholastic. Go to: Click Here for Summer Reading Program Presentation. Additionally, there is information about upcoming releases of popular children’s books, family friendly podcasts to listen to over the summer, and a fun “77 Days of Summer Activities” sheet that encourages students to enjoy and experience all summer has to offer and keep their minds sharp as well. Students completing at least 56 out of the 77 activities will earn a special prize from Mr. Sabovik!
Chromebook and Textbook Return
During the week of May 31st, we will collect Chromebooks, chargers, and textbooks for in-person learners. We will adhere to the following schedule:

Thursday, June 3rd- 1st and 2nd Grade

More grade-level specific information and instructions will be emailed to you later this morning. We plan to have remote learners return their Chromebooks, chargers, textbooks, and any remaining library materials on Tuesday, June 8th. Please keep an eye out for specific instructions from Mr. Bonomo.
LMC Material Return
All LMC books and materials are due back to the LMC by Tuesday, June 1st. Materials may be returned to student classroom return bins (in-person learners) and/or the book return bin outside the main office doors M-F 8:15 am - 4:00 pm (remote learners).
Starting now through the end of the year, students will be receiving paper notices of any overdue items daily. Additionally, parents will receive these notices via email.
Thank you in advance for assisting your children and for helping us to get all LMC materials turned in. Your efforts are appreciated. Please feel free to contact me or Mrs. Conrath directly if you have any questions about the items above. Have a wonderful summer!
